War Machine Sentenced to Life in Prison

LAS VEGAS — War Machine today was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 36 years.

The former mixed-martial arts fighter was convicted of 29 felonies in March stemming from an attack on former porn star and ex-girlfriend Christy Mack and her friend Corey Thomas.

At the sentencing hearing today, Clark County District Judge Elissa Cadish heard sentencing testimony from the 35-year-old War Machine, Mack, Mack’s mother and Thomas.

Mack’s words condemned War Machine at sentencing.

With tears, Mack said that life has dramatically changed in the past few years, noting that she’s afraid to leave her house and lives alone with an advanced security system on guard.

“When he gets out, he will kill me,” Mack told the judge.

Addressing the court, War Machine said he regretted the August 2014 attack every day and that something was “not right” in his head.

“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t seriously regret all of the things that I did,” War Machine said. “I was a very, very lost and very empty person.”

War Machine attorney Jay Leiderman, who earlier in the day lost a bid for a retrial in the case, focused on War Machine's disruptive childhood upbringing and relationship with his stepfather.

Leiderman also focused on brain injuries and steroid abuse during War Machine’s fighting career.

Prior to the trial, War Machine turned down an 18-year-plea deal which would have seen him released at 53.

With today's sentencing, War Machine could be eligible for parole at the earliest when he is 71.
